Roots

August 8, 2011

Maybe if I stand here long enough,
I’ll grow roots
I’ll extend deep into the ground
Embracing rocks, soil, worms,
The scurrying bugs, essential bacteria
Every atom composing the planet
I’ll feel Earth’s heartbeat
Low, murmuring,
Soothing and inviting,
In no particular hurry
Maybe I’ll be absorbed
Broken down, my atoms mingling freely
Consumed, reused, eternal
Maybe
If I stand here long enough
